NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) - A man was detained for questioning after the Transportation Security Administration stopped him at an airport checkpoint with a loaded gun.

TSA officers found the handgun in a carry-on bag at Norfolk International Airport early Monday morning. The gun was reportedly a .40-caliber handgun loaded with 13 bullets, including one in the chamber. It was detected as it went through an X-ray machine.

The TSA called airport police to detain the passenger for questioning.

The TSA is using this incident as a reminder that there is a proper way to travel with a firearm. Airlines may have additional requirements for traveling with firearms, so travelers should contact their airline regarding firearm and ammunition carriage policies.
