Portsmouth, Norfolk faith leaders host rally against predatory lending

Faith leaders and community members are rallying to bring awareness about predatory lending.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Faith leaders and community members of the group Virginia Organizing are rallying on Friday to bring awareness about predatory lending.

The "preach-in" events are focusing on the practices of payday and title lenders in Virginia.

The rally will be at ACE Cash Express, 4213 Portsmouth Boulevard in Portsmouth.

According to the group's news release, Virginia prevalent with predatory lending because it has some of the weakest consumer protections for payday and auto title loans in the nation.

The group is urging the Virginia legislature to act to fix the abusive practices in this General Assembly session. 

Faith leaders are calling on Virginia Senator Louise Lucas, Delegate Stephen Heretick, and Delegate Don Scott to be "champions for bills that limit these practices."
