Man wanted for double murder in Portsmouth turns himself into police

Sheldon Porter is accused of killing Wilbur Giles and Chiquita Giles on March 16.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A person accused of shooting and killing two people in Churchland on March 16 turned himself into Portsmouth police Friday morning.

Officers said 36-year-old Sheldon Marcus Porter murdered Wilbur Giles, 66, and Chiquita Giles, 34.

Porter is charged with two counts of First-degree Murder, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Non-violent Felon.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about the shooting in the 3600 block of Gateway Drive shortly after 12:30 a.m. on March 16.

Officers found the Gileses with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Both died there.
