Virginia State Trooper involved in crash

A Virginia State Trooper was transported to Norfolk General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries following a crash Sunday morning.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Virginia State Trooper was injured while responding to a report of an overturned vehicle on Interstate 464 in Portsmouth. The trooper first got the call early Sunday morning around 12:50 a.m.

When the trooper attempted to enter I-464 from the Military Highway ramp, the trooper struck a 2018 Honda Accord in the rear. The Accord was stopped in the travel lane.

The vehicle was occupied by a driver and a passenger. After further investigation, the driver purposely parked the Honda Accord in the traffic lane with his hazard lights on in hopes of preventing any further damage to the crash they had just witnessed, police said.

The trooper was transported to Norfolk General Hospital while the driver and passenger were examined and cleared of serious injuries by Portsmouth Fire and Rescue.

No charges have been placed at this time. No additional information has been provided about the condition of the occupant or occupants of the overturned vehicle.
