Man found shot to death in Suffolk

Police said 20-year-old Gregory I. Goodman was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the Remington Park neighborhood.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Police in Suffolk released the identifty of a man who was killed in an overnight shooting.

Officers were called out to the 2100 block of Gentry Street shortly after 4:30 a.m. for reports of gunshots in the area.

Police arrived to find a man, 20-year-old  Gregory I. Goodman, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

With crime tape and flashing lights, officers blocked off Gentry Street and Teton Circle. Investigators combed through a parking lot inside Remington Park.

One man 13News Now spoke to, who didn’t want to be named, said he and other neighbors heard close to 6 gunshots around 4:30 a.m.

“I talked to one of the neighbors, and he said did you hear the gunshots... I said, 'is that what they were,' and he said, 'there’s a guy she’s over here.' So I called 9-1-1,” the neighbor said.

His call sparked the hours-long investigation. Neighbors woke up to a barrier around the victim's body.

“I’m scared, very scare,” said neighbor Melissa Hoch.

As a mother, she describes this condo filled neighborhood as quiet and family friendly.

“You never hear or see things like that in this neighborhood,” said Hoch.

While kids woke up to go to school, more neighbors remained stuck at home.

“So my car got broken into, and I guess a lot of the cars out here did as well,” said tenant Derick Allen. “It's definitely is not very cool, it sucks.”

Suffolk police officers haven’t said what lead up to the shooting, and officers haven’t said if there’s a suspect or identified the victim yet.

Yet, Hoch believes this surprise shooting is a reminder that crime can happen in a seemingly safe neighborhood.

“Hopefully parents take note and know where their kids are at all times,” she said.

If anyone has any information about this shooting, police are asking for them to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
