Fire scorches detached garages, melts siding of military homes in Virginia Beach

Photos of the scene show paint melting off the side of townhomes, along with a blackened detached garage.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A fire spread between detached garages at the Liberty Military Housing complex in Virginia Beach late Monday afternoon, damaging multiple vehicles and the siding of nearby homes, officials said.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the detached garage behind the townhomes on Wellings Court, just off Shore Drive, at around 4:30 p.m., according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD).

Due to the fire's "intense heat," VBFD said the siding and fences of nearby homes were damaged. Two vehicles were also scorched in the blaze.

Photos of the scene show paint melting off the side of some of the townhomes, along with a blackened detached garage.

Luckily, crews say no one was injured.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
