Police search for victims of man exposing himself at Landstown Commons

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Have you been a victim of an exposure crime? That's what Virginia Beach Police are asking women in the area of Landstown Commons Shopping Center.

A suspect has been sitting in his car and asks women passing by for "directions." As the victim approaches the vehicle, the suspect exposes himself and performs a sexual act on himself.

What the suspect is doing is criminal behavior. According to police, numerous reports have been made over the past few months against the suspect.

Police are asking victims who were possibly exposed to this man to report it. It's an odd situation, so police understand some victims might be unsure of how to report it.

Detective Stoudt, with the Virginia Beach Police Department Investigative Division, is asking for victims to please call (757) 385-4101 to make a report.

No further information has been released.

At the Landstown Commons Shopping Center, Chuck Shelsby, owner of the Casual Pint, just heard about the flasher.

“We as a community need to make sure we are protecting everybody. Our goal is to give people a nice and comfortable place to shop and dine,” said Shelsby. And says he wants to help anyone impacted.

“I welcome anybody to come into my shop if they feel threatened. And we will make sure you’re safe and we will make sure it is handled in an efficient and quick manner,” said Shelsby.

He says this is critical of his own employees as well.

“The girls -- we will make sure to do something to make sure they are comfortable and protected. Our goal is not to allow somebody to get hurt,” said Shelsby. And he wants this suspect caught and out of the complex for good.

“Report immediately so we as a community can help the police department. Police cannot be everywhere, but police can get where they need to be quickly. I will make the effort,” said Shelsby.
