VIRGINIA BEACH -- The City of Virginia Beach has reached a settlement with Police Officer Nicole A. Kosmas, who sued the city and 10 police employees for more than $9.2 million, for gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment.
The parties settled the case after a lengthy mediation. Neither the city nor the individual defendants admit liability, but the city has agreed to pay $165,000 to Kosmas and $185,000 to her attorneys for costs and fees. The settlement agreement is protected from disclosure per Virginia Code § 2.2-3705.1(1).
"I believe that this is a fair settlement that enables both the Police Department and Officer Kosmas to productively move forward," City Attorney Mark D. Stiles said.
