ViBE Creative District looks for crosswalk designers

Four crosswalks in Virginia Beach's ViBE Creative District need to be painted. Artists can submit designed until midnight on March 10.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The ViBE Create District in Virginia Beach is looking for artists to design crosswalks!

The district needs four new designs for the Creative Crosswalk program. Artists must be 18 years or older, and they must be a resident of the seven cities of Hampton Roads.

The winners will be announced on April 4, and the painting will take place in April, depending on when the artists are available. 

The locations for these specific crosswalks are yet to be publicized, but they will fall within the ViBe Creative District boundaries.

The ViBE Create District will accept artists applications until midnight on March 10, and each artist can submit up to three designs. The designs must account for and include the white outlines of a traditional crosswalk.

The designs for Creative Crosswalks must be appropriate for the general public and they cannot include profanity, nudity, gang symbols, political content, advertisements of any kind, nor anything that may be deemed inappropriate or offensive.

Artists selected will be asked to tweak designs to fit specific dimensions of the crosswalk, depending on approved location with the City of Virginia Beach. Artists must also be able to physically paint their design onto the roadway with the assistance of volunteers and community members.
