Service restored after reported system outages Virginia DMV offices

A supervisor told the crowd of about 30 gathered for DMV services that there had been a statewide computer system issue affecting all Virginia DMV locations.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia's Department of Motor Vehicles experienced outages on Friday morning.

WVEC 13News Now's General Manager Brian Gregory was at the counter at the DMV Hilltop location in Virginia Beach when the computer system started to crash a few minutes before 10 a.m.

Shortly afterward, a supervisor told the crowd of about 30 gathered for DMV services that there had been a statewide computer system issue affecting all Virginia DMV locations. She said the computer systems were down with no estimated time of being back online.

A spokesperson for the Virginia DMV tells 13News Now they experienced "minor network issues" that led to slow and intermittent downtime.

The DMV said its engineers resolved the issue and services were fully operational again as of Friday afternoon.

DMV offices will also be closed on Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Many of its services will still be available online, however.
