Norfolk man builds bikes for strangers

A local man builds bikes for a living, but it's what he's doing to give back that is helping one man.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) — Andy Hund met Billy Best at a Hardees in Norfolk last week.

A week later he’s fulfilling a promise he made that day.

“He said ‘do you have a bike?’ said Best. “I said ‘no.’”

Hund owns Hund’s ReCycle Factory in Norfolk. The shop builds custom bikes for its customers all over Hampton Roads.

But Hund wanted to do something for his community this holiday season. He decided he would build a bike for a stranger once a week until Christmas.

“Every bike is here for somebody,” said Hund. “We just have to find that somebody.”

Best has had a tough go at life, but things are looking up for him. He recently moved into an apartment, and thanks to Hund, he now has a way to get around town to apply for jobs.

“Puts a good feeling in my heart knowing someone cares about me,” said Best.

“People need to remember to give and to help,” said Hund.
