Edenton, NC police chief to retire soon

Police Chief Henry King joined the department in 2018, after serving 18 years in Rocky Mount, as well as serving in the United States Marine Corps.

EDENTON, N.C. — The Town of Edenton has announced the retirement of Police Chief Henry King. Chief King led the Edenton Police Department for the past six years.

According to a press release from the office of the town manager, King joined the Edenton Police Department in 2018, after serving 18 years with the Rocky Mount Police Department, as well as serving in the United States Marine Corps.

The Edenton town manager adds that under King's leadership, the police department upgraded their vehicle fleet, implemented cutting-edge security and surveillance technologies, and more.

King currently serves as the President of the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police, making him the first chief from Edenton to hold the position. In this role, he serves as an advocate for public safety and law enforcement issues in Raleigh, representing Edenton at the state level.

"It has been an honor to serve the people of Edenton," King said in announcing his retirement. "I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am confident that the department will continue to thrive under new leadership. I am grateful for the support of the community, my colleagues, and my family throughout my career."

His retirement goes into effect on September 1, and the town says it will soon begin the search for its next chief.
