ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools will be on a two-hour delay Friday due to flooding on several roads in the area, officials with the North Carolina school district said.

"Yesterday evening and throughout the night, extreme winds and rain have resulted in flooding on several roads throughout the county and downtown area," the school system wrote on its website." Our district weather team has just surveyed many of these roads to determine the current driving conditions."

Officials said the delay will allow more time for the roads to clear and daylight to provide driving visibility.

The delay came after storms rolled through the region overnight with a few lines of heavy rain and even a tornado warning in southeastern Virginia.

While some showers will linger through around sunrise, the severe weather threat has diminished.
