Granddaughter, boyfriend arrested for assaulting 86-year-old

CURRITUCK COUNTY -- Two people have been arrested after a home burglary and assault of an elderly woman in March.

Deputies believe 29-year-old Eugene Williams, who is the boyfriend of the victim's granddaughter, broke into the home in the 2500 block of Caratoke Highway on March 11.

According to the Currituck County Sheriff's Office, Williams stole a purse and jewelry box. He also hit the 86-year-old grandmother on the head with a hammer.

The victim was transported to Sentara Albemarle Hospital and then flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. No further information was released on the extent of the victim's injuries.

Several attempts were made to use the victim's credit cards and gift cards the same day of the break-in. Deputies also say some of the stolen jewelry was sold at a kiosk at Southgate Mall by the victim's granddaughter, 33-year-old Lakisha Boyd.

Williams is currently in custody in Albemarle District Jail and charged with several felonies including robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

Boyd is currently in custody of the Currituck County Sheriff's Office and charged with several felonies including robbery, aid and abet robbery and burglary.
