Man shot and killed in Bertie County, North Carolina, deputies say

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — A person has died after being shot in Bertie County Wednesday night, the county's sheriff's office said.

According to the Bertie County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a person being shot in the 1500 block of Hexlena Road in Aulander around 10:30 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found a 28-year-old man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Bertie County Sheriff's Office investigators and the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation are investigating the homicide. 

The sheriff's office says more details will be released at another time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
