House fire in Kill Devil Hills drove 17 people out in early morning hours, officials say

Officials didn't say how extensive the fire was or if the residents would have to find another place to stay.

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — A house fire in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina drove 17 people out in the early morning hours of Friday, officials said.

The fire happened in the 800 block of North Virginia Dare Trail with firefighters responding around 3:30 a.m. Everyone got out of the house and no one was injured, according to the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department.

The cause of the fire isn't known, but the Kill Devil Hills Fire Marshal is investigating what happened. Officials didn't say how extensive the fire was or if the residents would have to find another place to stay.

"The Kill Devil Hill Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of equipping their home with working smoke alarms and to regularly test and replace their batteries," officials wrote in a news release. "Every second counts in a home fire – its critical to plan and practice home escape routes."
