Volunteers needed to help clean Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Volunteers are needed June 22 to help clean up the beach.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore is looking for volunteers to help clean up the beach on June 22.

From 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association are hosting a drop-in volunteer beach cleanup.

The cleanups will take place at Coquina Beach Access on Bodie Island, volunteers meet park staff at the bathhouse, Old Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Site on Hatteras Island, volunteers meet park staff in the parking lot, and Ocracoke Beach Access, volunteers should meet park staff in the parking lot.

Trash bags will be provided to volunteers, and children under 18 must be accompanied by his or her parent or legal guardian.

All participants and volunteers are encouraged to bring leather gloves, water, snacks, sunscreen. Volunteers are also asked to wear appropriate clothing, such as closed-toe shoes and hats.

If people are unable to make the June 22 cleanup date, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is hosting another event on September 21.
