Portsmouth police investigate half a dozen commercial robbery attempts

Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department Major Crimes Unit are searching for a suspect in half a dozen attempted commercial robberies.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) — Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department Major Crimes Unit are searching for a suspect in half a dozen attempted commercial robberies on Monday, November 12.

The first 911 call came in at 10:42 a.m. Monday of an attempted robbery at Hot Zone located at 2616 Airline Boulevard.

At 10:58 a.m. Police received a call for another attempted robbery at Vapes at 4572 George Washington Highway.

The next call came in at 11:25 a.m. from 2007 Victory Boulevard for a 1st Virginia check cashing.

Two calls came in five minutes apart at 12:39 p.m. and 12:44 p.m. for an American Cash Express 3844 George Washington Highway and Hannah Nail Salon at 3842 George Washington Highway.

The last call came in at 1:46 p.m. from Check into Cash at 2860 Airline Boulevard.

All locations described the suspect as a black male with a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt armed with a handgun.

The suspect fled on foot and no injuries were reported.

Nothing was taken from the businesses, but police are still investigating.
