Students: Problem with cockroaches at Lake Taylor High School

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Lake Taylor High School was just treated for bed bugs, but now people there might have another situation on their hands.

Students sent 13NewsNow photos and video of several cockroaches they said were in the boys' bathroom on the first floor.

Student Don Quezlewis had one word to describe it: “gross.”

“It gives me the chills, but I just keep going…to class,” said Quezlewis. “You could go in there and see yourself. They’re friendly, and they walk right past you.”

Two weeks ago, angry parents told 13News Now about bed bugs crawling around classrooms in the building.

Norfolk Public Schools said it sprayed for bed bugs the weekend before spring break.

13News Now contacted the school division to confirm if there was an issue with cockroaches in the building. A spokeswoman for Norfolk Public Schools sent us this statement:

"We have received several media inquiries with regard to an individual alleging that there is a problem with cockroaches being found at Lake Taylor High School. At present, the principal has confirmed that she has received no reports about a problem with these pests. However, the school will be on alert and will remain vigilant in ensuring that should a situation arise, it will be addressed immediately. These complaints are always investigated. We want all of our students, teachers, staff and visitors to enjoy a comfortable pest free environment."
