Virginia lawmakers want change after USPS delays lead to cancer tests being thrown out

A bipartisan group of leaders sent a letter to USPS asking for a tour of the Henrico County facility. That tour is still not scheduled.

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia lawmakers are demanding change after USPS mail delays caused hundreds of veterans' cancer tests to be thrown out.

The Richmond Veterans Administration Medical Center recently disclosed to officials that hundreds of colon cancer test samples weren't received until well after the 15-day validity window. Some of the tests date back to mid-2023.

Now, lawmakers want more oversight.

A bipartisan group of leaders sent a letter to USPS asking for a tour of the Henrico County facility. That tour is still not scheduled, and USPS has repeatedly declined to attend town halls in Richmond.

Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan said they're exploring other oversight options if the tour does not pan out.
