Virginia State Police graduate 80 new troopers

After graduation, the new troopers report to their individual duty assignments across Virginia the week of Feb. 18.

NORTH CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — Eighty new Virginia State Troopers graduated after receiving 30 weeks of academic, physical and practical training.

The troopers received their diplomas Friday during commencement exercises at the State Police Training Academy.

Gov. Ralph Northam and Deputy Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Ryant Washington attended the graduation ceremony.

After graduation, the new troopers report to their individual duty assignments across Virginia the week of Feb. 18. For their final phase of training, each trooper will spend an additional six weeks with a field training officer learning his or her new patrol area.

Several residents in the area were among the troopers given their diploma.

  • Newport News resident, Trooper Kody Z. Childress, 23. He interned for the Department before entering the VSP Academy. Patrol assignment: Gloucester County
  • Yorktown resident, Trooper Taylor E. Brooks, 25. Patrol assignment: City of Hampton and Newport News
  • Chesapeake resident, Trooper Jeremy O. Lawrence, 35. Patrol assignment: Norfolk and Virginia Beach
  • Chesapeake resident, Trooper Michaeline M. Salladay, 22. Patrol assignment: Rockingham County
  • Portsmouth resident, Trooper Kevin N. Piselli, 23. Patrol assignment: Dinwiddie County
  • Gloucester County resident, Trooper Mikaela M. Extine, 22. Patrol assignment: Hampton and Newport News
  • Gloucester County residents and brothers Daniel S. Street, 24, and Stephen A. Street, 28. Patrol assignments: Gloucester County
  • Eastern Shore resident, Trooper Cody B. Corbin, 24. Patrol assignment: Accomack County
  •  Eastern Shore resident, Trooper Jessey Kolinsky, 28. Patrol assignment: Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Suffolk
