WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — James City County police found a woman shot while responding to a dispute call Saturday.
Police say 72-year-old Irene Coates died after medics arrived on the scene.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Sandy Bay Road, James City County Police spokesperson Stephanie Williams said in a news release.
The victim's spouse, Robert Lee Coates, was taken into custody and is charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm.
