Mother makes plea for information on son's death

Gail Melvin's son was killed outside the RGN store on Jefferson Avenue and 18th Street. Detectives have exhausted all of their leads. They're hoping someone will call in a fresh tip to Crime Line.

NEWPORT NEWS -- It will be a year ago this October that 25-year-old Devoris Dickerson was shot and killed outside a store in Newport News. His family says the only way they can have closure is to see police lock up his killer.

His family is issuing a plea to the community.

'We just think somebody knows something and we're asking them to put their fears aside and do the right thing,' said Dickerson's mother Gail Melvin.

Her son was killed outside the RGN store on Jefferson Avenue and 18th Street. Detectives have exhausted all of their leads. They're hoping someone will call in a fresh tip to Crime Line.

'Someone saw something. You may not know who it is or the person's name. But, you saw something, the direction that person may have ran, the type of car he jumped in. Something even that small could make a difference,' said the victim's father Thomas Dickerson.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
