The Hire Vets Now event was designed to help service members and their spouses transition back into civilian life.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Veterans and their families had a chance to build connections and potentially find a job on Thursday at Naval Air Station Oceana.

The Hire Vets Now event was designed to help service members and their spouses transition back into civilian life.

The Hire Vets Now initiative is meant to give veterans and military members who are transitioning out of the service, as well as their spouses, an opportunity to meet with private employers across Virginia.

Employers who attended Thursday's event included BAE Systems, Kay & Associates, MI Technical Solutions, Sonic Systems, Portsmouth Public Schools, Southwest Airlines, DOMA Technologies, Dominion Energy, and HII Newport News Shipbuilding.

Hire Vets Now is holding several more upcoming events, including visits to Naval Station Norfolk on March 14 and Fort Eustis on March 20. They'll be back at Oceana on July 11.  A full events calendar can be found on their website.
