NEWPORT NEWS -- A father was arrested after he allegedly pistol-whipped a man in front of his three children Sunday.

According to Newport News police spokesman Harold Ely, a 13-year-old girl told police she was babysitting her little brothers when their father kicked open the front door of the home and confronted their mom's boyfriend.

Ely says the children's father, 34-year-old Shondall Jefferson, struck the man in the head several times and then fled the home.

Jefferson was arrested in the 800 block of 35th Street around 2 a.m. and is charged with malicious wounding, brandishing a firearm, burglary and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Ely says the children were not injured.
