Single accident on US 58, two airlifted to hospital

A single vehicle accident at US 58 West near Tennessee Road had closed the road in both directions Thursday morning.

SOUTHHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- An accident at US 58 West near Tennessee Road had closed the road in both directions, and caused a Nightingale to fly two to a hospital Thursday morning.

According to police in Southhampton County at 8:20 a.m., a 2000 Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road.

The driver overcorrected and caused the vehicle to travel back across the westbound lanes, run onto the right shoulder and overturn multiple times.

One of the three passengers was ejected from the Jeep.

The driver, 33-year-old Marquitta D White of Norfolk and another passenger, Takeliah T. Moore, 33, of Virginia Beach were flown to Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Moore was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A third passenger, Shamica Miles, 29, of Newport News was transported by ambulance to Southside Regional Hospital in Emporia for treatment of minor injuries.

No further information was released.
