Sisterhood spanning four decades reunites in Sandbridge

A group of women from Navy families met in Italy in the 1970s. Now they're reuniting in Virginia Beach.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Friendship stands the test of time at a beach house in Sandbridge this week.

It’s where, once a year, around 25 women come together for a reunion.

“We just laugh and laugh and laugh,” said Helen Hussey.

All of the women grew up together in Naples, Italy. Some of them go back as far as elementary school, but the majority of the group met in High School.

The Navy brought their families to Italy, but it’s the sisterhood, with a little help from social media, that would bring them back together.

“As soon as we reconnect it’s like we are right there again,” said Debbie Logan.

They call it the Uber Sluber. It was originally called the Uber Slumber Party until an email typo created an inside joke that stuck, and the reunion has been going strong for almost a decade now.

Their only rules are no politics, no religion and no drama.

The ladies come from a dozen different states, and while they only get together once a year, they’ve all relied on one another through the good times and the bad.

In a world where things move much faster now and keeping in touch is as easy as a scroll, they’re here to remind us how good it feels to make the time, in person, with the people who matter the most.
