Suspect in custody after stabbing at restaurant near CNU

Around 10:30 a.m., police say two men got into an argument at Warwick Restaurant and one tried to strangle the other.

NEWPORT NEWS -- Christopher Newport University sent out an alert Friday telling students and staff about a stabbing at a restaurant near campus.

It says,'University Police has assisted the Newport News Police in responding to a stabbing incident that occurred at the Warwick Restaurant adjacent to the University property. Newport News Police currently have placed the suspect(s) in custody. There is no further threat to the community.'

Around 10:30 a.m., police say two men got into an argument at the restaurant. One tried to strangle the other, spokesman Lou Thurston stated.

Restaurant patrons broke up the fight and then one of the men grabbed a knife and stabbed the other in the abdomen.

The victim was taken to the hospital; the other has been detained and is being questioned.

The investigation is continuing.
