RICHMOND -- The General Assembly voted to ban Internet Sweepstakes cafes.
'The problems that we had is that the commonwealth attorneys in some areashave been interpreting what the law says differently thanother areas this makes it absolutely clear what is illegal gambling,'said Delegate Glenn Oder, who sponsored the bill.
He became concerned when the businesses started cropping up in his district. He said they were starting to pop up near payday lending stores so people were going in to borrow money at high interest rates so they can gamble.
It's the cycle of debt on steroids,' said Oder.
The cafe ban bill is now on Governor McDonnell's desk waiting for his signature.
Once signed, the law will take effect July 1.
