YORKTOWN-A Yorktown restaurant owner is fed up with the government shutdown.
Glenn Helseth hasn't been able to open Carrot Tree restaurant because it's located in the historic Cole Digges House, which is owned and operated by the National Park Service.
In an email to 13news Now, he wrote 'Carrot Tree in Yorktown will open today in defiance of the NPS shutdown. Come for lunch! Will attempt to open at 10:30 a.m.'
The same message, entitled Occupy NPS, was on the restaurant's Facebook page.
The Park Service closed all national parks because of the shutdown.
Helseth said a loyal customer planned on celebrating her 100th birthday at the restaurant, like she had the past 11 years.
'That was my impetus for opening. They related to me how disappointed they can't hold momma's birthday,' he said.
So far, there is no response from the Park Service.
He said he's planning to stay open because the service hasn't taken any action to stop him. He plans to open Wednesday - serve the full menu - and stay open until his contract ends on December 31.
