Lake Taylor denied a chance at a state title as Northside wins Class 3 championship 73-58

Things got tense in the final minute as tempers flared between the two teams. The Vikings (28-3) would go on to win their second straight title.

RICHMOND, Va. — Lake Taylor High School was vying for the program's second state title and first since 2018. They were facing off against a Northside squad with eyes of back to back titles. The Titans (25-2) more than held their own against the Vikings (28-3), but fall short losing 73-58 that included tempers flaring between the two teams with less than minute left in regulation. Coaches had to separate players to restore order and finish the game.

 The Titans were trailing early and would take a four point lead, but would be behind 26-25 by halftime. By the second half, the Vikings built the lead to 16 points that included 10 three pointers. 

Elijah Washington, who's headed to Syracuse as a tight end in football, had gotten into early foul trouble for Lake Taylor. The senior was still able to deliver 15 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out. Rodney Baines chipped in 12 to go with 10 boards as they Titans had their nine game win streak snapped.
