Landstown boys clinch region title; Kempsville, Green Run, and Lake Taylor make state tournament

The Eagles won easily over Oscar Smith, while the Chiefs, Stallions and Titans each punch tickets to region finals.

Landstown got 16 points and 17 rebounds from DeShawn Spellman as the Eagles cruised past top seeded Oscar Smith 53-37 on Thursday night to capture the Class 6 Region A title. It was their first since 2019 when went on win a state championship. The Eagles (21-4) will face either West Potomac or Hayfield who play on Saturday in Region C. Oscar Smith (22-3) takes on the winner of that matchup.

In the Class 5 Region A, the finals are now set with Kempsville (20-4) facing off against Green Run (16-7). The Chiefs got a team high 17 points from Kyree Demiel and 16 from Savon Sandiford as the won 62-51 over Cox. The Falcons got a game high 22 points from Ben Nacey in the loss. Meanwhile the Stallions bolted out to an early advantage against Indian River (12-11) and cruised to a 62-37 win. Green Run heads to their 5th state tournament appearance in the last 6 years.

The Lake Taylor boys jumped out to a 24-5 first quarter lead over Lakeland and didn't let up. They would roll to an 86-46 win over the Cavaliers. The Titans (22-1) got 16 points each from Rodney Baines and Jamari Edwards as they next face Norfolk rival Booker T. Washington who dismissed Grafton 75-50 in the Class 3 Region A finals on Saturday at 3pm from Norfolk State University.

In the Class 2 Region A semifinals, Bruton won over Nandua 57-48. They'll next take on the top seed in John Marshall in the finals.
