Princess Anne and Hampton girls each punch tickets to state finals

The Cavaliers will make their 17th appearance in the championship game while the Lady Crabbers rallied from 15 points down to win and advance to finals.

In a rematch of the Class 5 girls region final, Princess Anne pulled away and made easy work of Deep Creek on Friday by a final of 70-48 in the state semifinals at Norfolk State. Tinasia Spencer led the Cavaliers with 16 points and freshman Micah Ojo added 15. They'll head to their 17th finals appearance when they next face Patrick Henry of Roanoke Saturday at 4:30pm from the Siegel Center at VCU. 

The Cavaliers are chasing their ninth championship in the last 11 years.

The Hampton Lady Crabbers (23-3) rallied from 15 points down to beat Monacan 66-56 in the Class 4 girls state semifinals from Heritage High School in Newport News. Jaiden Hunter topped Hampton with 22 points in the win. The defending champions return to the finals where they'll face Woodgrove on Friday at 12:30pm as well from the Siegel Center. Hampton is eyeing their third state title in the last four years.

In Class 3 Lake Taylor's girls season came to an end with a 59-53 road loss at Meridian.
