Piotrowski leads Marlins past Shenandoah in 5-1 win in ODAC Softball Tournament

Julia Piotrowski led the team going 3-for-3 with a double, scored one run, tallied two RBI, and stole one base in the win on Friday.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Wesleyan University softball (31-7, 20-2 ODAC) defeats #8 Shenandoah 5-1. 

Julia Piotrowski led the team going 3-for-3 with a double, scored one run, tallied two RBI, and stole one base, Joslyn Woodard was 1-for-3 with a triple, scored two runs, and had one RBI, and Sarah Prosser was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Emma Adams pitched well in the circle as she pitched 5.1 innings, allowed three hits, and had three strikeouts. Julia Piotrowski pitched 1.2 innings in relief and allowed two hits and one run. 

The Marlins scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Alison Pollack singled and moved all the way to third on an error by the center fielder. Emma Adams walked and stole second before Joslyn Woodard reached on a fielder's choice to score Pollack from third to take a 1-0 lead. With runners on the corners, Piotrowski hit a single through the right side that advanced Adams home and moved Woodard to second. Then, Sarah Prosser hit a single up the middle to score Woodard to put VWU up 3-0. 

Piotrowski hit a lead-off double in the fourth, stole third, and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to put Virginia Wesleyan up 4-0.

Virginia Wesleyan added one run in the fifth inning as Joslyn Woodard hit a triple down the right field line followed by a single from Piotrowski up the middle to score Woodard to go up 5-0. The Hornets scored one run in the top of the seventh but Adams's pitching was too much to seal the 5-1 win.
