Team Australia 1 dominates and wins the Worrell 1000

The duo of Max Puttman and Brett Burvill won the 50th event on Friday while capturing 11 of the 12 legs of the race.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — It was as close as a wire-to-wire finish as you could get for the 50th Worrell 1000. Brett Burvill and Max Puttman of Team Australia 1 took charge from the start and never let up as they came into the Virginia Beach oceanfront in first place on Friday afternoon.

They won in a time of 90 hours, 9 minutes and 11 seconds. That was just over three hours more than second place Team Australia 2's Pete and Bailey Skewes (93 hours 11 minutes 15 seconds).

The French-American Team Cirrus/MM Sailing's Emmanuel Boulogne and Matthieu Marfaing finished third in the race, while Team Rudee's out of Virginia Beach was fourth in a time of 94:40:16.

Puttman and Burvill dominated the event so much to the point that they won 11 of the 12 legs of the race. Hardy Peters and James Eaton of Team Outer Banks would finish eighth.
