Deadly motorcycle crash on Indian River Road in Pungo area of Virginia Beach

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A deadly motorcycle crash in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach shut down part of Indian River Road on Friday afternoon.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, the crash between the motorcycle and another vehicle happened in the 1800 block of Indian River Road shortly after 2:30 p.m. The motorcycle driver, identified as 25-year-old Jacob Keene of Chesapeake was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Virginia Beach police and the fire department responded to the scene.

Investigations by the Virginia Beach Traffic Safety Unit (VBPD TSU) indicated that Keene and his passenger were driving westbound on Indian River Road when they collided with a vehicle exiting a driveway.

The impact of the crash ejected both riders. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The vehicle's driver remained on the scene and cooperated fully with investigations.

VBPD TSU is continuing to investigate the incident.
