Dominion Energy prepared to respond to heavy rain, strong winds coming to Hampton Roads

The 13News Now Weather Team is watching an area of low pressure that will bring heavy rainfall Wednesday night through most of the day on Thursday.

NORFOLK, Va. — With heavy rain and strong winds expected to move into Hampton Roads, Dominion Energy said it is ready to respond to potential power outages and downed lines.

The 13News Now Weather Team is watching an area of low pressure that will bring heavy rainfall Wednesday night through most of the day on Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flood Watch impacting all of Hampton Roads from Wednesday evening through Thursday evening.

A spokesperson for Dominion said while the impacts are expected to be minimal, crews will be prepared to respond and will be available around the clock.

"Heavy rainstorms that span multiple days can soak the ground which can cause trees to fall on power lines, leading to an outage," Dominion spokesperson Cherise Newsome wrote in a statement. "Strong winds also can blow tree branches on power lines, causing interruptions of power."

Newsome said customers can download the Dominion Energy app to report outages and track restoration times. People are also asked to stay away from downed power lines and call (866) DOM-HELP to report them.
