2024 Primary Election Results for North Carolina and Virginia

This is where you’ll find real-time results for the May 14, 2024 Primary Election for North Carolina and later, the June 18, 2024 Primary Election for Virginia.

North Carolina’s May 14 Primary Runoff

North Carolina's May primary is much smaller than the Republican and Democratic primaries held back in March. Under NC state law, a second-place candidate in a primary may request a runoff primary if no candidate receives more than 30% of the votes cast.

In northeastern North Carolina, only two Republican primaries from March qualified for May's runoff: the race for lieutenant governor and the race for state auditor.

For lieutenant governor, an 11-candidate race in March has been whittled down to the top two Republican candidates: Hal Weatherman and Jim O'Neill. For North Carolina auditor, March's six-candidate race is now down to Jack Clark and Dave Boliek.

There are no Democratic primaries on May's ballot. The winners of the May primary will move on to the general election in November. Visit 13News Now's voter guide for more on North Carolina.

Virginia’s June 18 Primary

Virginia's next primary election will take place June 18. This election is for candidates who want to be their party's candidate in November for the U.S. House of Representatives the U.S. Senate.

For Senate, five Republican candidates are running, with hopes to take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine in November. Jonathan Emord is from Williamsburg and Chuck Smith Jr. is from Virginia Beach, while the remaining three candidates, Hung Cao, Eddie Garcia Jr., and Scott Thomas Parkinson, all hail from Northern Virginia.

Hampton Roads residents will also vote in two Democratic primaries for U.S. House: District 1 and District 2.

In House District 1, Leslie Mehta is squaring off against Herbert Jones Jr.  The winner of that primary will face Republican Rep. Rob Wittman in November. In neighboring House District 2, Democrat Jake Denton IV is going up against Missy Cotter Smasal. The winner of that primary will take on GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans in November's general election.

In the other Hampton Roads Congressional Districts, no Republican is challenging 3rd District Democratic Rep. Bobby Scott in November, while only one Republican, Bill Moher, has declared candidacy to face 4th District Democratic Rep. Jennifer McClellan. He will automatically advance to the November election without a primary.
