Hampton PD unveils new K-9's name after online poll

The police division took to Facebook to gather input from followers on which name to give the little guy.

HAMPTON, Va. — The Hampton Police Division (HPD) has a new sleuth and to help give him a warm welcome the agency let the community name the K-9.

With more than 1,100 votes cast, HPD announced Monday that the majority of participants landed on the moniker Sherlock.

The division took to Facebook last week to gather input from followers on which name to give the little guy, who arrived to his new home from Kentucky on Saturday.

"We've got an exciting announcement to share – we are welcoming a new addition to the Hampton Police Division and we need YOUR help to give our newest recruit the perfect name!" the Facebook post reads.

Followers could choose between four options: Bandit, Sherlock, Scout or Beau (Bo.)

HPD said the agency is excited to bring Sherlock home, and on Thursday, the pup reported for his first day of training, which admittingly is very minimal at this stage, since Sherlock is still so young.
