NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Police Department is investigating a homicide on Bonnot Drive on Thursday.

According to police, a person was pronounced dead in the 6900 block of Bonnot Drive near Rosemont Middle School. Officers responded around 8 a.m.

A neighbor who was walking his dog discovered a person's body in a field.

“At first, I thought it was clothes lying on the ground, but once I got closer to the situation, I discovered and noticed that it was a dead body, and then I called 911," said the neighbor.

He said he called 911. The neighbor said he was concerned about the students who attend Rosemont Middle School nearby.

“It’s not fair, and it’s not safe for the kids 'cause it’s like they're just coming through and doing senseless shootings like that," the neighbor said.

Police stayed on the scene for several hours, bringing in the forensic unit.

The neighbor said he wants the violence to stop.

“I want to see everybody just get along, man, it’s like it’s sad because you have senseless killings going on out here."

Police didn't specify how the person died but said the homicide investigation is ongoing, and more information will be shared once it's available.
