2 dead, 1 hurt in Virginia Beach shooting, police say

According to Virginia Beach police, it happened in the 5600 block of New Colony Drive at Stoneybrook Park.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Two men are dead and another person is hurt after a shooting in Virginia Beach on Thursday night.

The shooting happened in the 5600 block of New Colony Drive, at Stoneybrook Park just before 10 p.m. After receiving multiple calls about a possible shooting, officers arrived to find three people shot. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they don't have a suspect in custody yet. A spokesperson for the department said Friday morning that a second man died at the hospital and that the third victim is in critical condition.

The victims' identities have not been released at this time.

"We have talked to multiple witnesses and we are continuing to do so," said Virginia Beach Police Chief Communications Officer Jody Saunders. "We are asking the community if they know anything, if they saw anything please let us know ... this is a very active investigation, it is ongoing."

Neighbors tell 13News Now the shooting happened just feet away from a playground at Stoneybrook Park. One neighbor said he saw at least two people run away from the scene before police arrived.

"We heard like crying... and we knew something wasn't right, and that's when we heard all the sirens coming and then it was just cops everywhere," the neighbor said.

Despite not having any suspects in custody, Saunders said police do not have reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
