Residents say neighborhood is changing after homicide in Virginia Beach

Robin Tillery, 65, was found dead in the 3800 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard. Virginia Beach Police officers are investigating her death as a homicide.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. —

The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBDP) is investigating what it believes to be a homicide on Sunday.

Investigators found Robin Tillery, 65,  found dead on Sunday night in the 3800 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard after a report of shots fired.

The report came in just before 10 p.m., and neighbors tell us they heard shots outside, near an assisted living complex.

Most residents 13News Now spoke with said it’s usually a quiet neighborhood but they’re not surprised violence is now in their backyard.

“It’s sad when somebody gets shot in the first place, doesn’t matter where it is,” said Stacy, who asked to keep her last name private. “It was such a quiet area and such a great neighborhood to grow up in.”

Stacy said the neighborhood is changing, and not for the better. “It was totally different than it is now. I mean everybody’s parents knew everybody else. If you did anything wrong, your parents knew about it before you got home. Now, sirens aren’t unusual anymore,” she said.

Linda, who also asked to keep her last name private, has lived in the neighborhood for over two decades. She said she drove back from a friend’s house in Norfolk when she noticed police cars leading up to her street.

“I was scared,” Linda said. “My sister [told me] lock the door, put the dog outside. Even my friend told me, lock the door.”

VBPD is investigating Tillery’s death as a homicide but no charges have been filed.

We know Tillery has a daughter and several other family members in the area. We reached out to them but did not hear back.

Property records show she did not live near Virginia Beach Boulevard.
