VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach man will spend two decades behind bars for shooting and killing his ex-partner's boyfriend in 2023, the Office of the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney announced on Monday.

As part of a plea agreement, 23-year-old Khalil Jackson pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On April 6, 2023, officials claimed Jackson was "aggressive and angry" when he confronted the mother of his children about dating Amonte Walkup.

Jackson allegedly told the mother that he had people watching her and then tried to stop her from leaving. Despite his attempts, the mom, who has not been publicly identified, was able to escape in her car.

Then, at around 1 a.m., while the mother and Walkup were out at Parlay's 2 on Princess Anne Road, officials say Jackson called and texted the mom multiple times, threatening to shoot her and her home.

When the mother and Walkup went to leave the bar's parking lot, Jackson shot Walkup in the head, killing him. Officials said Jackson fired a total of three shots and "pausing between shots."

Jackson fled the scene but was ultimately arrested in Georgia on May 18.
