Southampton County authorities, family work to find missing mother

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who has had contact with Cynthia Carver before or since her disappearance on Feb. 22 to call 757-653-2100.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — The Southampton community is working together to help find a missing mother of two, Cynthia Carver.

The 34-year-old was last seen Thursday when dropping her children off at a babysitter's house. Carver, a correctional officer, didn't show up at work Friday morning causing her family to worry.

Police found blood and a knife inside Carver's home, but there was no sign of her. The mother's purse, wallet and phone were also missing.

Investigators said that Carver was set to meet an unknown man on Thursday night.

Family members have put posters of Carver throughout the community. Neighbor Derinda Parker says everyone should work to spread the word.

"It would be nice if there were more signs up so that people could be aware she's missing, and so she could come home safe," said Parker. "Social media would definitely help. If they see her, or any sign of her they could help out. Everyone must call in, call the police, or call somebody to help if they see her."

"If somebody's missing, then they're missing and they need help. I'm praying for the kids, the family, everybody. Somebody could see her, because it's a very tight-knit community," said Parker.

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who has contact with Cynthia Carver before or since her disappearance on Feb. 22 to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 757-653-2100.
