Chesapeake police and firefighters work together to extinguish house fire

An officer spotted smoke coming from the roof of a home in Chesapeake Saturday and quickly alerted firefighters.

Smoke was spotted coming from the roof of a Chesapeake home.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A police officer noticed smoke coming from a home in Chesapeake while passing by Saturday afternoon. The fire was spotted in the 3400 block of Bangor Crescent in the Western Branch area.

Thankfully, the officer was able to quickly alert firefighters. The Chesapeake Fire Department’s Engine 12 was on scene momentarily and confirmed smoke coming from the roof of the home.

 The Chesapeake Fire Department, assisted by Suffolk Fire, stretched hoselines to the attic and brought the fire under control within about 30 minutes.

Although the home was empty at the time of the fire, the occupants are displaced as a result of fire, smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
