Trash skimming catamaran to pick up litter in Norfolk

A unique boat will be helping the Chesapeake Bay Foundation ahead of the 30th Annual Clean the Bay Day.

NORFOLK, Va. — A waterway cleaning boat is coming to Norfolk.

The boat, the Omni Cat, is an innovative trash-skimming catamaran. It collects floating litter into its litter basket to keep waterways free from debris.

Ahead of the 30th Annual Clean the Bay Day, a cleaning catamaran is coming to Norfolk to help during the event.

The boat will be in action off the Pagoda Tea House in downtown Norfolk on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation Clean the Bay Day is Saturday, June 1 at sites across Hampton Roads and the rest of Virginia's Chesapeake Bay watershed. Thousands of volunteers are expected to join in this major effort to pick up litter from creeks, rivers, beaches, parks, and more.
