Large Suffolk house fire displaces 2 from their home

Suffolk Fire & Rescue says they were dispatched to the 200 Block of Babbtown Road for a fire Wednesday around 11:10 p.m.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Two people have been displaced from their home after a house fire in Suffolk Wednesday night, officials say.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue says they were dispatched to the 200 Block of Babbtown Road for a fire around 11:10 p.m.

Crews arrived around 11:15 p.m. and saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof of a single-story house.

Two people and a dog safely evacuated before crews arrived.

Crews started attacking the fire from inside the home while others searched the house for other residents.

An evacuation order was given by command just before 11:30 p.m. and crews began defensive fire operations. The fire was placed under control at 12:08 p.m.

Two people were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting them. No injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
