DANVILLE, Va. (WVEC) -- Virginia State Police has issued an Amber Alert for Emma Grace Kennedy.
Police believe the 7-month-old was abducted by 51-year-old Carl Ray Kennedy. Family members and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children confirm Kennedy is Emma's father.
The NC State Bureau of Investigation confirms Kennedy is a registered sex offender who is believed to live in Asheboro, North Carolina. Kennedy had been out of jail on a $250,000 bond for drug distribution.
They were seen leaving a gas station in Danville on Sunday night after Kennedy allegedly assaulted the child's mother. Virginia State Police said Kennedy is armed with a knife.
According to police, there was a possible sighting in the area of Seven Spring, NC around 6:45 p.m. They may possibly be headed to Oak Island, NC.
Investigators said Kennedy and Emma may be in a 2007 gold Suzuki Forenza with North Carolina license tag EKZ-5093 or FAA-1873. The vehicle has a "Johnny's Auto Sales" emblem on the trunk, according to police. They may be heading to North Carolina.
Police said Kennedy also has access to: a burgundy Toyota Camry (no tag number available), blue Jeep Cherokee and a Dodge truck. It is likely Kennedy is using the NC FAA-1873 tags on one or more of these vehicles.
Emma is described as approximately 2-foot-2 and weighs 18 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Emma was last seen at the wearing a light blue onesie with dots and a white rabbit on the left leg and a matching headband. She has a small scar on her left cheek.
Carl Ray Kennedy is 5'8" and weighs 170 pounds. He has gray hair, green eyes, and was last seen wearing a brown short sleeve shirt with gray shorts and black and white Sketchers.
Kennedy has several distinguishing characteristics, including a crooked left pinky finger, pierced left ear and tattoos on both arms. He has a tattoo of an eye on the back of his right hand. On his left arm, he has a skull tattoo and a wizard tattoo. On his right arm, he has a tattoo of a skull with a bandana over its mouth along with a pitbull tattoo with "American bulldog" written underneath. His left arm is scarred from a work accident and has a scar on his head.
Police believe Emma is in extreme danger.
