One dies in motorcycle crash on I-264

Two motorcycles and a car were involved.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Virginia State Police said it responded to a three-vehicle crash that left one person dead on Saturday around 9 p.m.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-264 east of Rosemont Road. 

Two motorcyclists riding on a 2012 BMW 1000RR and a 2016 Kawasaki were riding fast when the driver of the BMW motorcycle, 24-year-old Matthew Bolanos of Chesapeake, hit the rear of a 2008 Acura TL sedan.

The Kawasaki motorcyclist, Thomas Winborne IV, attempted to avoid the Acura and swerved into the jersey wall.

Bolanos was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, VSP said.

Winborne IV was also taken to the hospital and was considered to have life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Acura refused treatment. 

The crash was under investigation when this article was released, and more details may come out later.
