1 dead in Hampton shooting, police say

Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling on Aberdeen Road when it was struck by gunfire, causing the driver to leave the road and strike a fire hydrant.

HAMPTON, Va. — UPDATE: A man was shot and killed while driving his vehicle in Hampton Thursday evening, according to police.

The Hampton Police Division said it happened on Aberdeen Road near West Mercury Boulevard. Someone reported the shooting around 8:40 p.m.

Police officers found a silver four-door sedan off the roadway and the man inside suffering from gunshot wounds. The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead there.

Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling north on Aberdeen Road when it was struck by gunfire, causing the driver to leave the road and strike a fire hydrant before coming to a stop.

The police division said the motive and circumstances of this shooting are being investigated and there isn't any suspect information to share right now.

Police identified the victim as Kyson Lymon, a 21-year-old Hampton man.
